Commission II
Rain's Trace
A study in moving without maps — guided by internal compass, attuned to presence and the subtle stains of rain on rock. The sun, elements, and compass motif is an homage to the Paiute people of the Red Rock region; a remembrance woven into the larger landscape of the work.
Photograph taken on Leica in Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area, printed on linen and hand-painted with Japanese sumi ink — part hieroglyph, part contemporary graffiti. Made in the moment, the symbols that took shape gained their meaning after creation.
